Analysis of establishing shots

Today I decided to analyze the establishing shots from Panorama 'Is the cloud damaging our planet'. I really liked the idea of establishing shots that were used in this documentary. In my documentary, I would like there to be a significant focus on establishing shots of scenery. This is due to the reason that I really enjoy using establishing shots in my productions and really enjoy filming them. I believe establishing shots helps to bring a product together, by setting the overall tone, scene, and emotional state of the film. For example, my topic is quite sensitive but I believe if there is a calming establishing shot such as a sunset, it helps to completely calm the setting of the product. Overall, this is the first establishing shot that really stuck out to me, I really like the use of the ide shot within it to show the whole setting. This is the sort of style of establishing shot that I would wish to create. I believe it really creates a sense of calm among the audience. ...

An interview technique I may try in my interviews for my final task

Today I reviewed Panorama by BBC and during the episode 'is the cloud damaging the planet', I found an extremely odd yet interesting interview technique. This technique consisted of an over-the-shoulder shot from the interviewee, to show the interviewer's reaction and facial expressions to the responses to the questions. I have taken a still to analyze. I found this technique extremely interesting as it is not often shown, usually, all focus is on the interviewee, however, this is definitely an interview technique that I will consider in my final task. I feel as if this interview technique would really work in my second interview, in particular as I will be talking about the solutions to mental health. I believe it really helps the audience to picture the emotion in the image.

What channel will I distribute my documentary on?

I have conducted various research across different channels of the BBC and analyzed how each one conducts the openings. I have researched BBC2, BBC3, and BBC4. My focus was pulled to certain patterns in each one. The channel I believe will be more entitled to my documentary is BBC2 in my opinion. I analyzed Ukraine: The People's Fight. I liked this style of opening as it was constructed to exert the impression of seriousness within the attitudes of the people in the documentary. I believe my topic of Men's Mental Health is the serious manner and needs to be taken carefully. A channel I wouldn't distribute my documentary on is BBC4. In my opinion, they tend to have a much more relaxed style of documentaries, for example, Storyville: Evil Knieval. I don't think this style of documentary suits my topic

Researching mental health magazine articles

Recently I have been researching mental health-related magazine articles to inspire ideas for my own. I have been looking at a mental health magazine founded in 2017 with a main team of just 3 people. So far I have looked at two of their double-page spread articles, the first one about ADHD in adults. Firstly, the layout is colorful with a contrasting black-and-white photo of somebody's eye, portraying the idea of an enigma that something is wrong. It is branded with multiple headings including,' capitalizing on your strengths, and 'allow yourself to grieve what could've been'; both heading are very motivational and enlightening, which are also highlighted with colorful themes. Finally, I really like the use of the quote at the top of the page, which really draws the reader's attention away from the rest of the page. The second article includes a section from social media influencer Joe Sugg. Joe has over 7 million subscribers on his main YouTube channel alone. ...
