Types of questions in interviews

In interviews there are many different factors which affect questions, this determines the result and response of the question. For example, one major type of questions in interviews is closed-ended interview questions, these types of questions often call for simple, informational answers such as yes or no. These questions can help you to gain basic information about the interviewee. Examples of closed questions... Are you comfortable with this setup? Are you comfortable with you're answers being shared? Are you happy to answer all questions? Another main type of question is open-ended questions. Open-ended questions require thought and oblige the job seeker to reveal attitudes or opinions. Open-ended questions cannot be answered with a yes or no response, or with a static response. They are phrased as a statement which requires a longer response. Examples of open questions... How would you approach this problem? What do you think is the best solution? How do you feel about your c...

Ideas for the questions in my surveys

In my documentary due to the topic being sensitive I would like to complete my own research in which the candidates will appear anonymous. I believe this will provide a much stronger meaning and reinforce real statistics rather than statistics found on the internet. I aim to create a survey that any male individual can participate if they wish; I then want to compare these results with each other and see if there are trends which become macro or micro. I am not quite sure yet if I want to make the samples micro but more detailed, or macro and less detailed. I believe it would be better if I made the sample on the survey macro and then I can conclude an interview with a participant which focuses in more detail on the topic. I am also considering doing a survey for females, in which they state their beliefs into the terrible topic of male suicide. I feel like this would be beneficial to spread awareness to people. I have thought of numerous examples which I may use in my survey such as: ...

Working title/name progression

Over time I have been brainstorming and starting to form ideas about the title in which I want to use for my documentary. I have come up with multiple different ideas however I am unsure if I want to pose a question as my title, or a fact/metaphor-based title. For example, I really like the idea of '1 man a minute, I feel like this name really puts my topic into perspective as I feel a lot of people are unfamiliar with this fact. In my opinion, a title that works as more of a statement would work far better than a question for this topic, as there isn't really a certain answer, it is indefinite. However, a title that works as a question will enable me to centralize my documentary and creat a provisional answer for the topic. For example 'What is the impact of rising awareness for men's mental health?' and 'is the problematic issue of men's mental health able to be mitigated?'. However, in a subject like this, I would like to explore multiple contributing...

Possible filming locations for my establishing shot

In my documentary, I would like to open my documentary with two or three establishing shots. However, I would like these establishing shots to contrast. Firstly I will present one which promotes peace, tranquility, and relaxation and another one that contrasts and shows the reality of life. However, finding these locations may be difficult as I am a boarder so I am limited time at home in which I can find these locations. As I have recognized this problem, I have researched different places where I can film these shots, using Google Maps and various websites so that I can efficiently and effectively have a plan of where I need to go to film these locations. For my first establishing shot as said before, I would like a calm setting, these are some locations that I have thought of and feel would be a good fit for my filming: Cloud Severn Shine- However, I need to take into account that the weather may not be that good, however, I think that this shot is a perfect establishing shot. ...

Possible documentary ideas and planning

Over the course of time, I have spent researching different documentary styles and topics I have decided to base my documentary around the idea of men's mental health. Mental health is an extremely broad, vast, and expansive subject. Due to this issue, I have been trying to narrow down my ideas and research into certain areas of this topic and have come up with a few various questions which could become the topic of my documentary. Throughout my research, I noticed certain patterns within the subject of men's mental health which consist of: The stigma of men not being able to open up about emotion. Record and rising levels of male suicides in the UK Social media impacts the awareness of the issue COVIDs relation to men's mental health After finding these conventions of the subject matter, I would like to focus my attention on the impact of rising men's mental health awareness Which has enabled me to come up with the question I would like to pose,  What is the impact of ...

Ethics of documentaries

What is the definition of ethics: The discipline of dealing with what is good and bad, with moral duty and obligation. A standard of principles determined by an individual. Documentary makers do have a set of morals referred to as the code of ethics. These are a set of principles to keep their integrity intact. A couple of examples of these codes include: The director must not interfere with the subject's life path, subjects may not be paid for their use in the film, and all parties involved in the film must be given the opportunity to represent themself.  The Jink is renowned for serious controversy in ethics when it was found the director hid evidence against Robert Durst. However many people found outside the film world that they violated the world. Robert Durst was convicted and arrested due to this documentary. Documentary is often very biased and always aims to create an emotion. The subjects themselves give the right to film them, therefore it is not unethical. 'The pe...
